Library Day!

Students decorated the library with colourful balloons, flags and ribbons

On 23 July staff and students from the Auckland campus crowded into the library for the annual Library Day extravaganza orchestrated by students from Rohit Pande's Industry Project class. Highlights were the Living Library, in which invited guests presented material to students, and a variety of games in which students competed to win book vouchers kindly donated by University Books.

Library Day is a fun-filled occasion designed to open up the library and give it an accessible feel. Special thanks go to the staff members who generously donated their time: Peter Mobberley, Barbara Page, Diana Fergusson, Ayla Gill, Rohit Pande and Ann Cameron.

Peter on rock climbing

Diana on the effects of drug and alcohol

Barbara on educational differences between Japan and New Zealand

Ayla on the history of New Zealand

Rohit demonstrating archery

The bow was popular with students!

Kia ora koutou,

I’m Kat, the new librarian and resident blogger here at Whitireia. I’ve really enjoyed my first couple of weeks learning the ropes and getting to know lots of the students and staff from across the different faculties. My role within the library team is primarily dedicated to providing all you wonderful students and staff with reference services.

I have a background in delivering information and research services to policy advisors within the public sector. I also have Bachelor of Arts with a double major in Media Studies and Political science, and I'm currently working towards a Postgraduate Diploma in Information Studies.

Through my own study and work I have had a lot of research, writing and ICT experience, so I know how hard and frustrating it can be at times and I feel very privileged to be able to use my experience to help Whitireia students with your study.

So what kind of things can I help you with?

· Assisting you to conduct effective and thorough database searches (including helpful tips for google and google scholar)
Ø This can not only save you a lot of time and frustration,
but will help to ensure you access the right information
· I can provide you with more in-depth and ongoing research assistance through face more to face appointments and email
· I’m also here to help you with APA referencing, formatting, printing and other technical issues

Here at Te Wānanga We offer a range of information and learning across, delivered by the experienced and knowledgeable Librarians and Poutama Academic Learning Services, so instead of struggling through on your own, come in and talk to any of the friendly staff here and we’ll set you up with the help you need.
