Arts and Music Database

Now that Whitireia has an applied arts degree, the library is pleased to be able to fill a gap in its electronic collection with a music, film studies, folklore, performing arts, religion, the history and study of art and architecture, and languages and literature database.

The database is JSTOR Arts & Sciences III. Whitireia is the first New Zealand polytechnic to subscribe to JSTOR and Arts & Sciences III contains 140 journals. Try it out at http://www.jstor.org/

Refworks Update

Refworks is the electronic citation software used by the library and is available both on and off campus. Some interesting recent updates are:

  1. RSS feeds including table of contents and specialised searches can be easily set up within Refworks. Look for the link under Search/RSS feed

  2. Attachments can now be added to your citations - you no longer need to go looking for a PDF - just attach it when you add the Reference

  3. Write 'n Cite can now be used offline

  4. Electronic referencing now reflects the 2007 changes to APA which no longer require a database name or a retrieval date for a "stable" document. Whitireia will be changing to the updated style from the beginning of 2009 but please be aware of this change if you or your students are using Refworks

Ask at the library for help with using Refworks.
